Clients participate in a 4-day intensive introduction to Mayan culture.  During this course, the fundamental essence of Mayan culture is explored through locally guided traditional activities.  These activities may include:

• Introduction to Mayan Languages: fundamentals of K'iche and/or Cakchiquel
• Traditional cultivation methods of maize and coffee
• Traditional music: the marimba and the flute
• Learning the base-20 system of Mayan mathematics and the Mayan calendar
• Building a temazcal, a Mayan sauna, and learning about its place in the culture
• Weaving cloth using traditional patterns and methods
• Discovering the importance of the land to the Mayans through hikes up volcanoes or through jungles
  

Over the course of the program, participants prepare for a traditional fiesta, which they will put on for themselves and the local community to celebrate their experience.
